KSCB News - May 3, 2011 8:50 am

The Seward County Commission met Monday night for their regularly scheduled meeting a t 5:30pm at the Seward County Administration Building. After County Commissioners were introduced to new County Employees, Dave Miller of the Gas Compressor Institute was asked to come forward and explain his complaint in front of the commission. Miller had previously sent the Commission a letter outlining his complaint. The complaint was on behalf of the GCI, and surrounded the actions of Commissioner CJ Wettstein. In the letter, Miller stated that Commissioner Wettstein, had over the last couple of years had tried to get a booth during the GCI for free, to promote his hunting business and had been denied. Miller stated that this year, after once again being denied a booth, Commissioner Wettstein, proceeded to pass out literature promoting his business, after being invited to attend the Institute as a Commissioner. Other actions by Wettstein came into question and were discussed. Incidents discussed included a motel stay on the County’s credit card, and a survey Wettstein handed out to County Department heads. The Seward County commission voted to censure Commissioner Wettstien, and to forward the complaints and information to the Kansas Attorney General’s Office, for his opinion, and the possibility of further disciplinary action. The Commission also recommended that they set more rigorous travel policy and the use of credit cards, with the possibility of surrendering those cards and checking them out on an as needed basis.
