Semi/Pick Up Crash Claims The Life Of A Liberal Man:UPDATE

A Semi/Pick Up Crash has claimed the life of a Liberal man. The accident occured Wednesday morning at 5:10am on Highway 83, 3.5 miles north of Liberal. A 2010 Toyota Tacoma pick up being driven by Stan Wilbers, 80, of Liberal was southbound on Highway 83 when he crossed the center line and struck a 2003 Peterbilt Semi being driven by Marco Covarrubias-Esparza, 27, also of Liberal. Esparza tried to avoid the accident by moving to the right when Wilbers stuck the Semi behind the drivers side front tire. The Semi’s drivers tires then appeared to drive over Wilbers pick up. Wilbers was transported to Southwest Medical Center in critical condition and was later Life Flighted to Wichita where he passed away. Esparza was not injured in the accident. Esparza was wearing his seatbelt, while Wilbers was not.
