Scott City Mourns The Loss Of A Family

KSCB News - March 13, 2012 8:32 am

Scott City is dealing with a horrific fire that killed a mother and three children.

It broke out early Saturday morning in the laundry room.

Jackie Coberly, her son Brandon, and her two stepdaughters, Kassie and Tessa, did not survive.

Jeff Murphy lost nearly everything in the blaze, his two little girls, his girlfriend, and the boy he considered his stepson.

The girls’ mother came out to the home on Monday with their father.

"They are going to be missed by many people, and we are going through a very hard time so we ask for everyone’s thoughts and prayers," said Jeff Murphy, lost girlfriend in blaze. "It’s a terrible tragedy for a great community. We are all very grief stricken."

Coberly was disabled almost three years ago to the day, she lost both legs in a car accident.

Fire officials believe the fire started near a radiator heater in the laundry room, and Coberly couldn’t get herself or the children out in time.
