SCCC/ATS Receives Project Grant

Seward County Community College/Area Technical School is the recipient of a State Energy Sector Partnership and Training Project Operator Grant through the Kansas Department of Commerce to assist the Natural Gas Compressor Technology, Corrosion Technology and Process Technology programs.

The grant in the amount of $13,835.90 helps purchase tools and equipment for each of these programs. With the assistance of these tools and other equipment students are giving the opportunity to perform more hands-on activities in the shop.

In addition, the grant also awarded students all or part of their tuition in addition to some money for mileage to and from work. All of the Natural Gas Compressor students received full tuition.

The Kansas Department of Commerce was awarded nearly $6 million to carry out an energy sector training partnership supporting its strategies for renewable energy and energy efficiency.

A portion of the funds were granted to the Local Workforce Investment Areas to support training activities five sectors, including Renewable Energy Operation and Construction, Renewable Energy Manufacturing and Supply Chain, Energy Transmission, Biomass and Green Construction and Manufacturing Processes.
