Satanta Hopes Cannon Gives a Shot in the Arm

KSCB News - August 25, 2010 12:00 am

After four years out of coaching, Dirk Cannon was looking for any high school coaching job. The former teacher and coach at Arma, Kansas found the Satanta job. The Indians limp into the 2010 season after an 0-9 season and 12 consecutive losses. During the first day of practice, the Indians only had nine at the practice session so Satanta players actually went to the homes of several players who didn’t show up to implore them to join the team. It worked and now there are 16 out for football at the 2A school.

Key Indians include: sr. ol/dl Moses Chavez, sr. wr/cb Zack Martinez, so. ol/dl Mitchell Wilson, and so. utility player Berney Fuentes.

The Indians were 3-6 in 2008 and 4-5 in 2007. The Indians will play a freshman quarterback and are one of the smallest 2A schools so it won’t be easy. But hope springs eternal this time of year. Coach Dirk Cannon will be a guest during the Sportsguys Wednesday morning between 7:37 and 9 a.m on Talkradio 1270 and kscbnews.net.
