Saints Run Past Clarendon

KSCB News - April 12, 2012 6:39 am

Seward County beat Clarendon 6-5 in a non conference game Wednesday on a cool and windy day at Brent Gould Field in Liberal. The Saints plated a run in the bottom of the eighth and didn’t allow a run after the sixth against the high octane Bulldogs who came into the game hitting .358.

Johnny Griffith pitched two scoreless innings for the win after Will Harris went two innings, Garret Smith went two, and Trevor Julian Julian pitched the first three innings. The Saints only allowed two earned runs (charged to Julian).

Both teams got off to decent offensive starts in the first when Clarendon (26-14) scored two and the Saints scored three. But the wind picked up and blew in from right field the rest of the game.

The Saints were productive at the top of their order with Tanner Rainey going 4-5 while Steven Polito was 3-5. Jake Barrios was 2-4 with two RBI’s and a double.

The Saints are 23-21 and return to conference play Saturday and Sunday at 1 p.m. against upstart Pratt. The games air on Talkradio 1270 and kscbnews.net.
