Saints Return with a Vengeance

KSCB News - February 23, 2012 6:44 am

Seward’s men’s basketball team spent the last week focusing on defense. They went back to the basics in teaching the team’s man-to-man defense and it seemed to pay off Wednesday night in the Green House. A seemingly refreshed Saints team forced 30 DCCC turnovers in a 79-56 win to stay in first place.

The Saints led throughout including 38-25 at halftime after Seward’s Kaheem Ransom banked in 17 footer and made the free throw after the foul to give the #13 Saints the 13 point lead at intermission.

The Saints saw Dodge shoot 2-13 from three point range while the Saints connected on 48 percent of their shots.

Deverell Biggs scored 23 and had seven steals. Kaheem Ransom had 13. Irvin Hollinger added 11 points and six rebounds while Edson Avila scored 10 points and grabbed six rebounds.

The Saints sweep the season series and half DCCC’s three game winning streak. Seward is 22-5 overall and 10-3 in the Jayhawk West staying one game in front of Hutchinson who won at Colby. The Conqs are 18-10 overall and 6-8 in the Jayhawk West.

The Saints play at Garden City Saturday night at 7:30 on B107.5 and kscbnews.net.

Seward will be featured during Thursday night’s Green Line at 6 p.m. on Talkradio 1270 and kscbnews.net.
