Saints Charge into Final Four

KSCB News - March 22, 2012 8:57 pm

For the third time in program history and second time in five years, the Seward County Saints are in the final four of the NJCAA basketball tournament. Seward held off upset minded Columbia State, Tennessee 52-45 Thursday night in the Hutchinson Sports Arena.

Seward was sloppy offensively with 25 turnovers but held the Chargers to 27 percent shooting. The Saints shot only 36 percent from the field but out-rebounded Columbia 50-36.

Irvin Hollinger scored 12 and grabbed 11 rebounds while Deverell Biggs added 12 points and 10 rebounds. Daveon Boardingham had 10 points and nine rebounds.

Seward jumped out to a 16-5 lead but Columbia went to a zone and the Saints offense sputtered. Seward and the Chargers were tied at 25 at the half.

Seward plays Northwest Florida State Friday night at 8 p.m. on B107.5 and kscbnews.net. South Plains meets Eastern Oklahoma State in the 6 p.m. semifinal.
