Riggs Runs in Shrine Bowl Race Saturday

Liberal’s Morgan Riggs runs for the West in Saturday’s Shrine Bowl cross country race in Pittsburg. Riggs placed 12th in the state meet and signed to run at Emporia State. Riggs ran in last year’s event in Wichita. This is the third year of the cross country event.

The football game kicks off in Pittsburg Saturday night. Meade lineman Trevin Pfannenstiel and Hugoton fullback/linebacker Caleb Gifford repsresent the listening area on the West team. Gifford ran for 1,575 yards and 21 touchdowns and 142 tackles for 10-1 Hugoton. The younger brother of former Seward baseball player Brock Gifford signed to play football at Hutchinson. The 6’2″ 290 pound Pfannestiel signed at Garden City after leading the Buffaloes to an 11-1 season. Travis Prfannenstiel of Hays, Mitch Bean of Garden City, and Landon Head of Dodge City respresent the Western Athletic Conference for the West. The West leads the East in the all star football game featuring the top 68 players in Kansas. The West won 14-7 last year and leads 22-13-1.
