Riggs Leads Redskins at Great Bend

The Liberal boys track and field team fought off injuries and wind and placed fourth at the Great Bend Invitational Tuesday. After four golds Friday, sophomore sprinter Isaac Gallegos was lifted from the lineup after his hamstring tightened during the 4×100 relay. Liberal placed fourth with 88 points. Great Bend won the meet with 121 while Hutchinson scored 92, Hosington scored 90, LHS 88, Dodge City 81, and Maize South 49. The Liberal girls placed fifth with 64. Dodge City won the Great Bend girls meet with 149.17, Hoisington scored 91.33, Hutchinson scored 91.33, Great Bend scored 83, Liberal scored 64, and Maize South totaled 43.17. Liberal’s Morgan Riggs led the way for LHS winning the 3200 in 4:45.72. He also took second in the 800 and 1600. Alan Grajeda was fourth in the two mile and fifth in the mile. Adebayou Braimah left Great Bend with two gold medals winning the 300 hurdles (42.69) and took fourth in the 110 hurdles. Braimah joined Michael Sena, Levondrick Martin, and Isaac Gallegos to win the 4×100 in 45.31. Kenlee West led Liberal in the jumps by taking second in the triple jump, third in the long jump, and fourth in the high jump. Levondrick Martin placed fifth in the 100 and 200. Justin McPhail was fourth in the shot put and Akile Powdrill was fourth in the discus.

Destini Lucero led the LHS girls with a gold in the 3200 (12:44.57). Lucero was also second in the mile run. Leslie Deleon was fifth in the 3200. Caitlin Bauer was second in the shot put and discus and fifth in the javelin. Justice Norah was third in the 200 and fifth in the 100 and long jump. Lakeria Eatmon was third in the 400. Destiny Hall placed fifth in the half mile. Liberal goes to Holcomb April 23.
