Rep. Petty Appointed to Transportation and Public Safety Budget Committee

KSCB News - January 6, 2014 9:14 pm

State Representative Reid Petty was appointed on Monday to the Transportation and Public Safety Budget Committee by House Speaker Ray Merrick (R-Stilwell). Merrick said Petty has done an excellent job so far in the Kansas House of Representatives.

"Rep. Petty has done an excellent job in the House, and will continue to do so as a member of Transportation and Public Safety Budget, an area of state government that is extremely important to the people of the 125 District."

With several resignations, there had to be changes to some of the committees, so Petty was moved from Social Services Budget to Transportation and Public Safety Budget, which is vital to his district. Petty is already a member of the main Transportation Committee, and with the addition of the Transportation and Public Safety Budget Committee will now sit on two commmittees that deal with Transportation.

Petty was pleased with the change and appointment.

"One of the top issues I hear about from the citizens of the 125th District is that we need to improve Highway 54. It will be great for Southwest Kansas to now have a voice in two key transportation committees," Petty said.

Petty also serves on the Federal and State Affairs Committee, which includes issues that deal the 2nd Amendment, abortion, and immigration.

The 2014 legislastive session will begin this Monday, January 13, in Topeka at the State Capitol.
