REO Speedwagon In Garden City

KSCB News - August 28, 2009 12:00 am

Tickets still are available for the concert of the year in Garden City, said Debbie Reynolds, Mosaic executive director.

And with a little volunteer work, people may even get to see REO Speedwagon in concert for free.

The legendary rock band will be performing Saturday night at the Finney County Fairgrounds. The concert serves as a benefit for Mosaic, a nonprofit organization that assists area individuals who have developmental disabilities. Last year, a concert featuring the rock band Styx raised $35,000 for the organization.

General admission tickets, which cost $55 last year at the Styx concert, cost $35 this year and include both stage front and grandstand seating.

The winner of Mosaic’s Battle of the Bands concert ź?? Bipolar Echo ź?? won the public’s approval back in June to open for REO Speedwagon. The Guymon, Okla.-based band that describes its influences as Queen, Uriah Heep, Cheap Trick and Journey will be opening the show at 8 p.m.

Prior to the arena show, Mosaic also will be hosting a VIP party in the Finney County Exhibition Building. Tickets are $40 for the party and include three drink tickets and hors d’oeuvres and a private musical performance with St. John-based Lady Wisdom, the runner-up in the Battle of the Bands concert in June. As of this morning, there were 40 tickets still available for the VIP party.

Motorcyclists have the opportunity to buy ride-in tickets for the concert for $5, in addition to the $35 admission price, which will allow motorcycles onto the floor of the arena during the concert.

Reynolds said 14 volunteers are needed to put the stage up before the event, and 14 are needed to tear it down after. Those who volunteer will receive free entrance into the concert and must be able to lift 75 to 100 pounds. If interested, contact Kriss Ayala at 275-9189 extension 302.

This past week, more than 200 tickets have been sold and there were about 2,000 tickets still available as of this morning, Reynolds said. Tickets will be available the night of the concert. The gates open at 6:30 p.m. and food vendors will sell food.
