Brock Kappelmann - October 16, 2018 6:24 am

The Liberal High soccer team celebrated their senior night with a 7-1 win over the visiting Great Bend Panthers at the Gary Cornelsen Sports Complex.  The Redskins defeat a Great Bend team who shocked previously unbeaten Dodge City last week.

The Redskins broke a scoreless tie when David Arroyo scored with 6:34 to play in the half.  Mike Fonseca gave the Redskins a 2-0 lead as he scored at the 36:02 mark of the second half.  Great Bend made it a 2-1 game with a goal at the 28:18 mark.  Christian Sobalvarro widened the lead to 3-1 with a goal at the 23:02 mark.  Fonseca scored from 30 yards out at the 20:13 mark to lead 4-1.  Fonseca added his third goal of the game at the 13:17 mark to lead 5-1.  Fonseca’s fourth goal of the game and 40th of the season made it 6-1 with 6:10 to play.  Esteban Dominguez added a goal in the 78th minute for the 7-1 lead.  Liberal is 12-3 and 6-1 in the WAC.  They play for a WAC title at Dodge City on Thursday.
