Record Temperatures Recorded In Oklahoma Panhandle

Joe Denoyer - October 18, 2016 8:14 am

State weather officials say the temperature reached 102 degrees in the Oklahoma Panhandle on Monday, making it the highest temperature ever recorded this late in the year.

State Climatologist Gary McManus says the 102 temperature recorded at the Mesonet site in Buffalo topped the previous record of 101 degrees at Healdton on Oct. 17, 1972. The heat records date back to the 1880s.

McManus says a ridge of high pressure is combining with strong southwesterly winds to drive up temperatures across the state.

Temperatures in northwest Oklahoma are about 15 to 20 degrees above normal, while the rest of the state is seeing average temperatures about 10 degrees above average.
