OPSU Aggies Softball Drops 3 Over The Weekend

KSCB News - March 12, 2013 4:03 pm

The Oklahoma Panhandle State University softball team traveled
to Odessa over the weekend for a 3-game series against the University of
Texas of the Permian Basin and returned to Goodwell still looking for a
Heartland Conference win.

Samantha Arledge pitched game one, giving up only three hits and three runs
and striking out four. UTPB scored a single run in the first inning and and
two more in the fifth while holding the Aggies scoreless. OPSU finally got
on the board in the sixth when Kaitlin McCool singled and Brandi Heath
followed with a double that brought McCool home, but that was the only run
they managed as they lost 3-1. McCool, Heath and Kari Pitts all had one hit
for three at-bats.

OPSU did not score in the first inning in game two of the doubleheader on
Friday, but the Falcons came out fast, taking four runs off pitcher Kayla
Pollard in the first inning before Presjel Dai’Re relieved her to get the
third out. The Aggies had two hits in the second, but left the runners
stranded. Their lone run came in the fourth when Julie Cross hit a two-out
single with the bases loaded to get third base runner Lilli Ward safely
home. Bristol Ashlock, at second when the ball was hit, attempted to score,
but was thrown out at home. The Falcons scored another run in the fourth to
get the 5-1 win. Pollard was given the loss and Dai’Re scattered five hits,
gave up one run, and struck out four in five and one-third innings of work.

UTPB’s Desiree Valero tossed a complete game, giving up only one hit and
striking out eight as the Falcons won game three 3-0. OPSU pitcher Samantha
Arledge was given the loss, giving up six hits and three runs and striking
out three in six innings. McCool had the single OPSU hit.

Aggies play their home opener on Wednesday, March 13 with a doubleheader
against the New Mexico Highlands University Cowgirls in non-conference play.
The first pitch is set for 1 p.m. and the weather forecast looks great, so
plan to come out and watch some OPSU softball!
