Ruby Mae Kennedy

Ruby Mae Kennedy, 86, of Guymon, Oklahoma passed away August 9, 2017 at her daughter’s home in Edmond, Oklahoma.

Ruby was born April 17, 1931 in Plains, Kansas, the daughter of Jacob and Anna Schmidt Koehn. She attended school in Plains and graduated from Plains High School with the Class of 1949. She worked at a local Drug Store which is where she met John Kennedy.

Ruby was united in marriage to John in Kismet, Kansas on July 20, 1952. They made their first home in Hooker where Ruby worked as an operator at the phone company, they then moved to Liberal, Kansas and then back to Hooker where she worked as a district manager for Avon for fifteen years.

They moved out to the Kennedy farm and lived there until they moved to Guymon where Ruby worked for twenty years at Walmart.

In 2012, they moved to Yukon Oklahoma where lived in an assisted living center. John passed away July 25, 2014. She continued to live there until early in 2017 when she moved to Edmond, Oklahoma to be nearer to her daughter.

Ruby was a member of the Gospel of Grace Church in Hooker. She was very church oriented. She was a member of the Women’s Painting Club. She enjoyed being with people, she loved to play bingo, do all kinds of arts and crafts.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, John; three sisters, Lillian Schmidt, Sophia Miller and Gladys Busby; and infant sister; one brother, Leroy Koehn; two half-sisters, Virgie and Hazel.

Members of the family include one son, Jerry Kennedy and Patty of Hooker, Oklahoma; two daughters, Renata Gawith and Paul of Vancouver, Washington and Janita Whipple of Yukon, Oklahoma; eight grandchildren, Dana Tollison and Dale, Jeremy Kennedy, Joshua Kennedy and Jennifer, Paul Christian Gawith, Timothy Gawith, Maegan Gawith, Kylee Whipple, Anna Whipple; eight great grandchildren, Kayla, Kenyon, Kase, Jaden, Olivia, Jackson, Ella and Trent Zody-Kennedy; one great great grandson, Lennox.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, August 14, 2017 at the Gospel of Grace Church in Hooker, Oklahoma with Rev. Odie Nunley officiating. Interment will be in the Hooker Cemetery directed by Roberts Brothers Funeral Home in Hooker, Oklahoma.

Memorial are suggested to the charity of the donor’s choice.
