Melva M. Dewell, 97, of Fowler, Kansas, died Thursday, May 172018, at Fowler Residential Care, Fowler.
 
She was born April 3, 1921, at Fowler, Kansas, the daughter of Fred J. and Sophia (Wortman) Heinz. She graduated from Fowler High School in 1938.  She later attended Hutchinson Salt City Business College.
 
On August 4, 1941, she married Richard Alden (Duke) Dewell at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, Fowler. They had four children, Larry and Dan Dewell of Fowler, Jo Cox and husband Jeff of Hugoton, Kansas, and Dave Dewell and wife Janice of Tulsa, Oklahoma; seven grandchildren, Angie, Richie and wife Michelle, Jeremy, Aubrey, Layna, Lucas, and Elizabeth; two great-grandchildren, Makenzie and Brayton; three step-grandchildren; and nine step-great-grandchildren.
 
She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; and a sister, Evelyn Beckerman; and a brother, John Heinz.
 
Vigil services will be held at 7:30 p.m. Monday, May 21, 2018, at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, Fowler. Holy Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 22, 2018, at the church.  Friends may call from 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. Monday at Fidler-Orme-Bachman Mortuary, Meade.  Interment will follow in the Fowler Cemetery.
 
The family would welcome memorials to the St. Anthony’s Catholic Church Hall Building Fund or the Fowler Residential Care, in care of the funeral home.
