Mary-Kay Berghaus, 83, died June 7, 2018 at High Plains Retirement Village, Lakin, Kansas.
She was born January 13, 1935 at Meade, Kansas, the daughter of Kenneth and Neva (Griggs) Sims and was recognized as the first baby born in Meade County that year.
On March 20, 1954, she married Gene “Doc” Berghaus. She worked alongside her husband in the Elkhart veterinarian clinic for 42 years before moving back to Meade after his death for another 12 years.
She brought her fun loving and generous spirit to many people through classes she taught at her ceramic shop, volunteering at the Morton County Fair, 4-H and numerous school activities. She was a member of the VFW Women’s Auxiliary, Elkhart Square Dance Club, Point Rock Riders, Red Hat Society and the United Methodist Church.
Mary-Kay loved PURPLE, K-State, family and friends.
Survivors include: two sons, Boyd Eugene Berghaus (Steve), Charlotte, NC., and Scott Alan Berghaus (Jan), Lenexa; a daughter, Pamela Kay Simmons, Lakin; two brothers, Van Sims (Joyce), Colorado Springs, CO., Pat Sims (Jan), Meade; five granddaughters, Amy Berghaus Travers (Cameron), Overland Park, Sarah Berghaus, Kansas City, MO., Katie Simmons Puryear (Conley), Jill Berghaus Hegarty (Samuel), Kara Simmons, Lakin; four great-grandchildren, Clara, Leigh, Callen and Jack.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and a brother, Larry Sims.
Memorial Service will be at 2:00pm Saturday, June 30, 2018, at the United Methodist Church, Meade.  Cremation has taken place and inurnment will follow the service at Graceland Cemetery, Meade.
Memorials may be sent to Beam Senior Center, Meade or Elkhart Senior Citizen Center, Elkhart in care of Fidler-Orme-Bachman Mortuary, Meade.
