Laverna C. Hobbs

Laverna C. Hobbs, age 96, of Elkhart, Kansas, died Monday, June 12, 2017, at Morton County Senior Living Community in Elkhart. She was born November 21, 1920, in Polk County, Nebraska, the daughter of Louis Samuel and Flossie Grace (Nansel) Ernst.

Laverna grew up in Nebraska and graduated from Duncan NE High School. She moved to Denver, Colorado after graduation. She married Irvin O. Mumy, Jr. on April 25, 1942. To this union three children were born, Gene, Barbara and Linda. They later divorced. She married Robert Hobbs on September 4, 1959, in Louisville, Colorado. Laverna was employed at Blue Cross and Blue Shield for 21 years; working as a file clerk and then manager. After her husband, Robert, died she lived with Linda and her husband. In 2001, she moved to Rolla to be near family.

Survivors include two daughters, Barbara Dunn and husband Don of Richfield, Kansas, and Linda Milburn and husband John of Rolla, Kansas; son, Gene Mumy and wife Melissa of Columbus, Ohio; step-son, Jim Hobbs and wife Evie of Boulder, Colorado; brother, Lyle Ernst of Columbus, Nebraska; five grandchildren, one step-grandson, 10 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.

Laverna is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Robert in 1994; sisters, Carol Carlino, Joan Beren, Joyce Boley, Dorothy Thurber, and brother, Melvin Ernst.

Funeral service will be held Thursday, June 15, 2017, at 10:30 AM at the United Methodist Church in Rolla, Kansas with Pastor Herman Lambrecht officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday, June 14, 2017, from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Garnand Funeral Home in Elkhart, Kansas. An additional service will be held in Denver, Colorado, and interment at Crown Hill Cemetery.
