Juan Johnny B. Lopez, 80, died on Sunday, May 25, 2018 at Stevens County Hospital in Hugoton, KS.

 

He was the son of Grace Lopez; he was born on August 23, 1937 in Las Vegas, New Mexico.  He was raised by his grandparents Cirilo and Vicenta Lopez. He was raised in Las Vegas, New Mexico.  He moved to Hugoton from Las Vegas, New Mexico in 1977.

 

He and Vicie Jane Jones were married on July 5, 1980 in Meade, Kansas.

 

He loved and enjoyed being with his family. He was a fun and loving man. He was loved by the community.  Johnny would dress up at Christmas as Santa for his grandchildren but would also do it for other families in Hugoton.  He loved to sing.

 

Johnny started the Santa Committee about 35 years ago because he really enjoyed making the children happy.   He would go down to the Pioneer Manor nursing home to entertain the residents by dressing up as a clown.  Throughout the year he would dress up as Santa, Dracula, Easter Bunny and Clowns. He enjoyed making people smile.

 

He worked for Panhandle Eastern until retirement.  He then worked as a Substance Abuse Counselor for SKDAF and Mirror Inc.,  before he started his own Counseling Service.

 

He attended the First Christian Church of Hugoton where he was known as the candy man to all the children at church.

 

Survivors include, wife, Jane Lopez of the home, three daughters, Pat Wishon, Hugoton, KS.,  Joann Fernandez, Albuquerque, NM., Veronica Lopez, Colorado Springs, CO., extended family members are Gene Shelton & wife Sheri, Liberal, KS., Darrell Shelton & wife Sally, Alva, OK., Jack Shelton & wife Deb, Marion, KS., Louise Shelton, Hugoton, KS.; three sisters, Sally & husband Darrell, Alva, OK., Trudy Harris, Joplin, MO., Adele Elliott & husband Kenny, Hugoton, KS., 12 granddaughters, 3 grandsons,  12 great granddaughters, 5 great grandsons and other relatives and friends.

 

He was preceded in death by his mother, grandparents, two brothers, William Ray, John Henry Lopez, a sister, Ina Taylor, a great granddaughter, Syndl Garrison.

 

 

Memorial has been established for Juan Johnny B. Lopez. Memorials may be mailed to Paul’s-Robson Funeral Home, PO Box 236, Hugoton, KS 67951.

 

Graveside service will be held on Saturday, June 1, 2018 at 10 AM at Hugoton Cemetery, Hugoton, KS. with Pastor Heath Kelley.

 

Friends may call Thursday and Friday 10 AM to 8 PM at the Paul’s-Robson Funeral Home, Hugoton, KS.
