Josefina Guzman, age 96, of Ulysses, Kansas, died Monday, July 9, 2018, at Western Prairie Senior Living Community in Ulysses. She was born October 14, 1921, in Del Rio, Texas, the daughter of Rogelio and Damiana (Rubio) Ramirez.
Josefina grew up as a migrant worker and moved to follow the crops and work. She married Nasario Guzman on September 29, 1937, in Del Rio, Texas. She has lived in Ulysses for 25 years. She loved raising her family and being a housewife. She cherished time spent with family.
Josefina is survived by her children, Oralia Montoya of Denver, Colorado, Nasario Guzman, Jr. of Dumas, Texas, Francis Morales of Ulysses, Kansas, Maximo Guzman of Garden City, Kansas, Sylvia Navarette of Arkansas City, Kansas, Alice Valdez of Arkansas City, Kansas, Gloria Guerrero of Garden City, Kansas, Sarah Conchas of Falfurrias, Texas, Joel Guzman of Arkansas City, Kansas, Jesse Guzman of Ulysses, Kansas, Leticia Valdez of Tulsa, Oklahoma, and Susan Zamarron of Ulysses, Kansas; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.
Josefina is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Nasario on February 13, 1995; and four siblings.
Funeral service will be Friday, July 13, 2018, at 2:00 PM at Garnand Funeral Home Chapel in Ulysses with Pastor Nasario Navarette officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday, July 11, 2018, from 2:00 PM – 8:00 PM, and Thursday, July 12, 2018, from 2:00 PM – 8:00 PM at Garnand Funeral Home in Ulysses. Interment will follow at Ulysses Cemetery in Ulysses, Kansas. Arrangements are in care of Garnand Funeral Home, 405 W. Grant Ave, Ulysses, KS 67880.
