James H. (Jim) Anderson

James H. (Jim) Anderson, age 84, of Ulysses, Kansas, died Tuesday, October 17, 2017, at Bob Wilson Memorial Hospital in Ulysses. He was born June 11, 1933, in Mountain View, Missouri, the son of Harold and Libby Marie (Thornton) Anderson.

Jim moved with his family to Ulysses in 1949 and graduated from Grant County Rural High School. He married Wilma Dunaway on January 22, 1952, at Willow Springs, Missouri. Jim started working in the oil fields and doing farm work. He then began selling cars at the family business, Anderson Motors and Anderson Automotive, retiring in 1997. Jim enjoyed hunting, training bird dogs, camping, fishing, playing cards, and loved spending time outdoors. Jim especially enjoyed being “Poppy” to his grandchildren. He was a member of a Bridge Club, the Ulysses Masonic Lodge #435, and served as a past Master. He also served on the Grant County Senior Center Board serving as a past president, and was a founding member of the Ulysses Gun Club. Jim was baptized at the Chapel Hill Church in Mountain View, Missouri.

He is survived by his son, Mike Anderson and wife Pam of Ulysses, Kansas; brothers, Leon Anderson and wife Gloria of St. Louis, Missouri, and Bill Anderson of Ulysses, Kansas; sister, Patty Craft and husband Ron of Ulysses, Kansas; and three grandchildren, Kelsey Donaldson, Tannis Anderson, and Stacy Cook. 

Jim is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Wilma in May 2017; and brothers, Jerry Anderson and Steve Anderson.

Funeral service will be Friday, October 20, 2017, at 2:00 PM at the Shelton Memorial Christian Church in Ulysses with Reverend Kelly Gindlesberger officiating. Interment will follow at Ulysses Cemetery with Masonic Rites. Visitation will be Thursday, October 19, 2017, from 2:00 PM until 8:00 PM with family present from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Garnand Funeral Home in Ulysses. Memorial contributions may be given to Jim Anderson Memorial Fund, with funds being distributed to various local charities, in care of Garnand Funeral Home, 405 W. Grant Ave, Ulysses, KS 67880.
