Evelyn Friesen, 100, of Liberal, Kansas passed away May 24, 2017 at Southwest Medical Center in Liberal, Kansas.

Evelyn Anna was born March 14, 1917 on the family farm near Hooker, Oklahoma, the daughter of Jacob & Marie Schroeder Martens. She attended rural school then attended Adams High School graduating with the Class of 1939.

On November 26, 1939 in Hooker, Oklahoma she was united in marriage to Milton Friesen. They made their first home on the Friesen Farm and farmed until Milton’s death August 31, 2002.

She had attended Beauty School in Liberal, Kansas and opened and ran Evel Beauty Shop in Adams for many years.

She enjoyed doing arts and crafts. She taught herself to play the organ and was the church organist at the Mennonite Brethren Church in Adams for many years and did Child Evangelism Good News Club in her home in the late 1940’s and early 1950’s. In 1954 to 1955 Milton and Evelyn were missionaries in Indianola, Oklahoma. In 2007, she moved to Liberal Springs assisted living and resided there until her death.

Preceding her in death where her parents, her husband, Milton, son in law, Dwayne Colvin, two sisters, Velma Fast and Joan Richert and brother, Eugene Martens.

Survivors include her daughter, Janice Colvin of Hooker, Oklahoma and her son, Mike and Christy Colvin of Ft. Worth, Texas and her grandchildren, Chase, Chad and Nicolai; Also surviving are an adopted daughter, Frances Friesen of Newton, Kansas and her children, Jeremiah, Adrianna, Jacob and Jarred and her grandchildren; two brothers, Herbert and Jan Martens of Palmdale, California and John Jerry and Edda Martens of Arlington, Virginia; sister, Edna Wiens of Liberal, Kansas.

Memorials are suggested to the Mennonite Brethren Cemetery or the Child Evangelism Fellowship and may be left at Roberts Brothers Funeral Home, Box 745, Hooker, Oklahoma, 73945.

Memorial services will be held at a later date, under the direction of Roberts Brothers Funeral Home in Hooker, Oklahoma.
