Donald J. Klein, age 79, passed away early Wednesday morning, March 29, 2017, at the Good Samaritan Center, Liberal, Kansas.
 
He was born April 28, 1937, at Spearville, Kansas, the son of Lawrence and Lulu (Clapper) Klein.  As a young boy he attended school in St. John, Kansas, graduating from St. John High School.   After his graduation he became a Kansas National Guardsman, serving for eight years.  A resident of Kismet-Plains area for fifty-two years, he owned and operated the Don Klein Oil Field Service as a contract pumper.
 
He was a member of the Kismet United Methodist Church, and a n active member of the Liberal and Dodge City Gun Clubs.  Donald enjoyed hunting, fishing, making knives, gun smithing, cooking, and smoking meats.
 
On November 14, 1954, he married Leona Jeanette Jordan at Great Bend, Kansas.  She survives.

Three daughters,                        Donna Coffey and husband Neal of Waxahachie, Texas
                                                Denna Brown and husband Karl of Turpin, Oklahoma
                                                Debbie Carter and husband Kent of Topeka, Kansas
 
A brother,                                    Ron Klein of Salina, Kansas
 
Three sisters,                                    Jeanett Sallee of Prague, Oklahoma
                                                Joyce Maxfield and husband Mack of Malad, Idaho
                                                Karen Jantzen and husband Doug of Malad, Idaho
 
Sixteen grandchildren                        Twenty-three great-grandchildren
 
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m.  Monday, April 3, 2017, at the Kismet United Methodist Church, Kismet.  Friends may call from 1:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Sunday at Fidler-Orme-Bachman Mortuary, Meade.  Private family inurnment will take place at the Kismet Cemetery at a later date.
 
The family would welcome memorials to the Kismet United Methodist Church in care of the funeral home.
