David Carl Ackerman, 77, passed Friday, March 29, 2019 at Stevens County Hospital in Hugoton, KS.

He leaves behind three children; daughter Samantha Hancock and her husband Bill Hancock of Topeka, KS, son Mark Ackerman of Moultrie, GA and wife Amirah (Wokaty) Ackerman, and Shannon Nordyke and husband Paul Nordyke of Hugoton. He also had seven grandchildren; Zackery Roybal, Alexis Hancock, Cory Wokaty, Kayce Ackerman, Kayle Ackerman, Karessa Nordyke and Austin Nordyke; brothers, Ronald Ackerman and Larry Ackerman; sisters, Bette Ryan, Joan Wilson, Brenda Haskell and DeeAnn Jones.

David was born to Matthew and Dorothy (Holden) Ackerman in Pratt, KS on July 14, 1941. He grew up in Kinsley, KS the majority of his life. He joined the United States Navy in August of 1960 where he served four years.

For the last 50 years he has lived in Hugoton, KS. He was co-owner of the local Sears Catalog Store in Hugoton for 26 years. There he was a salesman and appliance repairman. Through the years he enjoyed participating in many activities. He was a member of the Hugoton Jaycees, Hugoton Lions Club, and the Stevens County Fire Department. He played golf and played in a pool league for many years. He loved building things with his hands. His favorite hobby was crafting model planes.
