Claude B. Leis

Claude B. Leis, age 94, passed away Wednesday evening, February 14, 2018, a the Fowler Residential Care Center, Fowler, Kansas.
 
He was born October 5, 1923, at Conway Springs, Kansas, the son of Andrew and Cecilia (Elpers) Leis.  He graduated from Minneola High School in 1942.  He was a self carpenter, farmer, and stockman.
 
He was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church of Fowler, a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Disabled Veterans, and American Legion.  After his graduation be  joined the United States Army and was with the 41st Armored Infantry in the 2nd Armored Division “Hell On Wheels” and received four Bronze Stars and a Purple Heart while serving during World War II.
 
On October 19, 1948, he married LaVerne Hoffman at Fowler, Kansas.  She survives.
 
Other survivors include a son, Randy Leis and wife Diane of Fowler; four daughters, Debra Mahan and husband Ron of Tallahassee, Florida, Barbara Whitehead of Wichita, Kansas, Peggy Higgins and husband Robert of Wichita, Kansas, and Jan McGregor and husband Rick of Wichita, Kansas; a brother Clarence Leis and wife Betty of Rogers, Arkansas, fourteen grandchildren; and fourteen great-grandchildren.
 
He is preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Don, Bill and Ivan Leis; and three sisters, Evelyn Finkelde, Genevieve Leis, and Florence Busch.
 
Vigil services will be held at 7:00 p.m. Sunday, February 18, 2018, at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, Fowler.  Holy Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Monday, February 19, 2018, at the church.  Friends may call from 1:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. Sunday at Fidler-Orme-Bachman Mortuary, Meade.  Interment will follow in the Fowler Cemetery.
 
In lieu of flowers the family would welcome memorials to St. Anthony Catholic Church in care of the funeral home.
