Carl V. Dougherty

Carl V. Dougherty, age 92, died Sunday, February 20, 2011 at Morton County Care Center in Elkhart, Kansas. He was born February 1, 1919 in Marion, Illinois the son of John Carsel and Nellie Bryson (Midgett) Dougherty.

Carl moved to Cimarron County, Oklahoma from Illinois at a very young age. He graduated from Plainview High School at Griggs Community, Oklahoma. Carl was a farmer and rancher and enjoyed caring for his cattle, driving the combine cutting wheat, eating homemade ice cream, fishing trips with his sons, and eating fresh fish. On June 15, 1940 he married Anna Jo Hagelberg in Boise City, Oklahoma. She preceded him in death. He later married Mildred Ingram on December 28, 1996 in Boise City, Oklahoma. She survives.

Other survivors include two sons, Johnnie Dougherty and wife Ruth of Eva Community, Oklahoma, Bill Dougherty and wife Debbie of Edmond, Oklahoma; one daughter, Becky Ellis and husband Leon of Elkhart, Kansas; daughter-in-law, Sandy Dougherty of Elkhart, Kansas; three step-sons, E.J. Ingram and wife Darla of Amarillo, Texas, Deryl Ingram and wife Verna of Gilbert, Arizona, Gary Ingram and wife Laura of Keyes, Oklahoma; two step-daughters, Deanna Groves of Amarillo, Texas, Brenda Higgins of Elkhart, Kansas; one sister, Opal Cryer of Boise City, Oklahoma; eight grandchildren, Kevin Dougherty and wife Pam of Miami, Texas, Shelly Field and husband Russell, Jodi Peterson of Goodwell, Oklahoma, Gerry Dougherty and wife Mindy of Elkhart, Kansas, Ty Ellis and wife Renee of Texhoma, Oklahoma, Nancy Meyer and husband Barry of Elkhart, Kansas, Colby Dougherty of Edmond, Oklahoma, Brandon Dougherty and fiancé Lisa Matheny of Edmond, Oklahoma; twelve great-grandchildren, and many step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Anna Jo Dougherty; one son, Joe Dougherty; one grandson, Jackie Lane Dougherty; and three sisters, Nina Dougherty, Aleta Cryer, and Nadine Smalts.

Visitation: 10:00 AM until 6:00 PM, Wednesday, February 23, 2011 at Garnand Funeral Home in Elkhart, Kansas.
Funeral Service: 2:00 PM, Thursday, February 24, 2011 at the Church of Christ in Elkhart, Kansas with Minister Layton Leatherman officiating.
Interment: Willowbar Cemetery in Keyes, Oklahoma.
