Bill L. Anderson

Joe Denoyer - October 15, 2019 10:34 pm

Billie LeRoy Andersen, 91 years young, of Liberal passed away Oct. 11 in Wichita.

Bill was the third oldest child of 15 children born to Ernest William and Verna Esther Yost Andersen on April 28, 1928 in Seneca, Nebraska. Bill grew up in the sandhills of Nebraska helping his father haul heating oil until he and his younger brother, Don, joined the military to serve in the Korean conflict.

After Korea, Bill and his brother Don moved to Kansas joining another brother. It was then he met a sassy, cute girl by the name of June Boyd. Bill and June were married in September of 1954 and recently celebrated 65 years of marriage. During those 65 years, they raised their daughters and began a career of fostering teen-aged girls for over 45 years. One knows that teen-aged girls can be quite the challenge; Bill had a hideaway in his garage!

Family reunions were always fun, noisy and filled with all the stories a family of 15 have accumulated. He loved his family, but his number one love was his wife. He was fondly called Billie by his wife and they never missed a day without saying “I love you”. Bill instilled a strong work ethic for his immediate and foster children; he worked many years in the oil field industry and was always seen working around his house after he retired.

Bill will be truly missed by his family and his community; his legacy is one we strive to emulate.

Bill is survived by his wife, June. By his daughters Seena Cox (husband Steve Skellenger) Bentonville AR, Nettie Bicanich of Denver, Co., and Bonnie Keating (husband Russ Keating) Liberal. By his sisters Char Taylor (husband Loren), Kay Wolfenden (late husband LeRoy) of Nebraska. By grandchildren Nicole Bicanich, Brandon Cox (wife Terri Rettig), Breann Cox, Nash Keating and Kinnedy Keating. And by numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, grand nieces and nephews.

Preceding Bill are twelve siblings, his parents, & son-in-law Ed Cox.

A viewing will be held at Miller Mortuary, Friday Oct. 18 from 1:00pm – 7:00pm with family present to greet friends from 6:00pm to 7:00pm

Funeral services will be 11:00am Saturday, October 19, 2019; St. Andrews Episcopal Church in Liberal with burial at the Liberal City Cemetery.

The family suggests in lieu of flowers for donations to be made to the OTLR in care of Miller Mortuary PO Box 826 Liberal, KS 67905-0826
