Nguyen Leads LHS Tennis at Hays

Duc Nguyen continues his impressive play with 1st Place Honors at the Hays Invitational Tennis Tournament on Monday, April 12th. The Redskins Boys Tennis Team with three 2nd Place Awards and one 1st Place Medal finished 2nd Place behind Abilene. Liberal scored 26 points ; Abilene took team honors with 30 points. Competing teams included Great Bend, Garden City, Russell, Abilene, Liberal, and two teams from Hays.

Individual Results:

#1 Singles: Duc Nguyen went 4-0 finishing 1st Place. In a match filled with exciting points from hard serves, superior net play, and solid ground strokes, Nguyen defeated a State champion, Nick Wehling, from Abilene 6-5 (7-5 tie breaker). Duc Nguyen met Wehling in a rematch for 1st Place dismantling his opponent 6-0 to earn the gold medal. He also defeated Ben Glassman from Hays 6-1, then defeated Taylor Ermoian from Hays 6-1.

#2 Singles: Larcyn Carter went 3-2 finishing 2nd Place. He lost to Alex Harris from Abilene 1-6. Carter battled his way back through the lose s bracket to face Harris again in the finals losing 3-6 to finish 2nd Place. Carter defeated Hunter Wilkens from Hays 6-2, defeated Chris

Prentice from Garden City 6-2, and defeated Great Ben s Nick Moyers 6-5 (8-6 tie breaker)

to finish 2nd Place.

#1 Doubles: Vince Nguyen and Josh Hamilton went 4-2 on the day finishing 2nd Place. In a

match filled with quality shots, and entertaining points, this doubles team lost to Abilen s Kendal Barlow & Travis Fritson 4-6. They battled through the lower bracket to find themselves in the finals against Abilen s dominating team losing 1-6 to take 2nd Place.

Playing through the lower bracket, the Redskins defeated Hay Torrey Contrerrez & Hayden Pflieger 6-1, defeated Russel s Dylan Riedel & Adam Buehler 6-2, then defeated Great Ben s Corbin Bosch & Noel Rodriguez 6-3 to take 2nd Place.

#2 Doubles: Hai Vo and Antonio Rodriguez went 4-2 finishing 2nd Place. In a tough match against Abilene Jordan Guccione & Matthew Barlow, the Redskins fall 1-6. This team also

fought their way through the lower bracket to find themselves in the finals against Abilene losing 2-6 to finish 2nd Place. They defeated Hay Beougher/Scmidt 6-5 (7-0 tie breaker), defeated Garden Cit s Harp/Profitt 6-2, defeated Great Ben s Jacobs/Neeland 6-2, then defeated Hay Desaire/Purviance 6-1 to take 2nd Place.
