Newton Tops Liberal in Overtime

Brock Kappelmann - October 27, 2017 6:41 am

The upset minded Liberal soccer team made a run at another big win Thursday night in Newton.  However the upset bid fell short as the Railers beat the Redskins 3-2 in double overtime.

The Skins struck first as Mike Fonseca scored with an assist from Elmer Rivera.  Newton tied the game 1-1.  The Railers took a 2-1 lead with 5:08 remaining before halftime and led 2-1 at the half.  The Redskins fought back as Fonseca scored with a Rivera assist to tie it 2-2 with 6:20 to play.  They went to overtime and then double overtime tied at 2-2 before the Railers won in double OT.  The Redskins finish 5-13.
