Bee Jays Hold Down Hays
07/20/2009

The BJ's won their fifth game in a row Monday night by beating Hays 4-2 at Brent Gould Field. The BJ's have allowed eight runs during their longest winning streak of the year. Starting pitcher Western Nevada's Logan Odom (3-2) pitched five innings for the win allowing two runs, striking out three, and walking one. Sam Houston State's Will Skelton pitched two scoreless innings while Cal State LA's Camron Collard and Emporia State's Diego Soto pitched scoreless innings. Soto picked up the save. It was a frustrating night for Hays who allowed Liberal's first run on a botched run-down in the second and beaned a man with the bases loaded on a 1-2 count to allow Liberal's fourth run in the sixth after two walks and two bean balls. In the third, USC's Mike Greco and Lamar's Stephen Tucker wacked RBI singles. Greco was and Louisiana Tech's Justin Gordey were both 2-4. Liberal is 14-13 in the Jayhawk League meaning they are over .500 in the league for the first time since a win over Hays June 16 when they were 4-3. Liberal is 22-16 overall. The Larks are 19-13 overall and 12-12 in the Jayhawk. The BJ's pass the Larks in the standings are sit in third place percentage points behind Derby (13-11). Liberal hosts Hays Tuesday night at 7:00 PM on Talkradio 1270 and kscb.net.
