Golfers Glowing After Weekend at Yucca Ridge

Night Golf Winners at Yucca Ridge



After a rain delayed start, competition was heavy for the Yucca Ridge 6th annual night golf tournament played Saturday evening.  Tying at 3 over part 38 in the 2-person scramble was the Steve Austin - Jim Darnell team with the Andy Lovato - Art Rivera team.  Both teams are from Liberal.



The day had a scheduled start of 6 pm with a planned daylight 9-hole round.  Sixteen teams, including four from out of town, were on hand when the wind, rain and small hail hit.  Savoring a barbeque cookout waiting for the storm to pass, the skies cleared by 9 pm and the course was set up to play under clear skies, light breezes and a three-quarter moon.  It was a great setting for night golf.



The team of Levi Eaton - Derek Fuller shot a four over par 39 for third place followed by Conner Warren - Ryan Brown shooting a 41.  Two out of town teams placed 5th and 6th.  Matt Jones - Brad Gover turned in a 42 followed by Jim Ochs and Frank Wendler with a 43.



"This was a great turnout for this popular event," said superintendent Trent Kitch in commenting on the numbers playing this year.  "This is one of our most popular events and it was worth waiting for the rain to pass.  Those playing the first time were really surprised how easy it is to play at night with a lighted ball."



Yucca Ridge Golf Club is a links style public access course 4 ½ miles north of Liberal.  For tee times or more information on events and activities at Yucca Ridge call 624-GOLF or Kitch at 482-0243.
