04/01/2011

Seward County Lady Saints sophomore 1st baseman Jill
Rodgers has been named the NJCAA National Player of the Week for her
performances in a 6-1 week for Seward.  Rodgers, a Duncan, Oklahoma
native, hit .478 for the Lady Saints last week while hammering out 6
doubles, a home run, and 15 RBI's.  Tuesday against Barton Rodgers was
unstoppable at the plate for Seward, going 3 for 4 with a double and 3
RBI's in game one before turning around and going 3 for 3 with a double,
a home run, and 6 RBI's in game two of the double header.  On Thursday
against Otero Rodgers bounced back from a down game one to go 2 for 4
with a double and an RBI in the Lady Saints game two win.  Saturday in
Seward's matchup with Trinidad State, she drove in a run in game one to
go along with a pair of walks and was 1 for 3 with a double and 2 RBI's
in game two of the Lady Saints sweep of the Lady Trojans.  In her final
game of the week against #18 Western Nebraska, Rodgers was at the
forefront of Seward's 6-0 upset win over the Cougars as she went 2 for 4
with 2 doubles, 2 runs scored, and 2 RBI's for the Lady Saints.  Rodgers
is currently hitting .355 on the season while leading the team in games
played (34), at bats (121), hits (43), doubles (15), and RBI's (41).  (Roy Allen)
