01/13/2011

Texas County Election Board Secretary Kimberly Sloat announced that the Goodwell School District has opted to close Precincts 700202, 700205, and 700302 in Texas County for its Annual School Election scheduled on February 8, 2011.

State law allows a School district to close a precinct if it is not entirely within the district's boundaries and if there are fewer then 100 registered voters in that part of the precinct that is located in the district. There are approximately 12 voters in the part of Precinct 700202, 10 voters in the part of Precinct 700205, and 10 voters in the part of Precinct 700302 that is located in the Goodwell School District.

Voters who are registered in Precincts 700202, 700205, and 700302 at addresses located in the Goodwell School District will receive an application for absentee ballots from the County Election Board. They can fill out, sign and return the application form to the County Election Board to have a ballot mailed to them. Applications for absentee ballots must be received by the County Election Board no later than 5 p.m. on Wednesday, February 2, for this election. Voters who receive their absentee ballots by mail must return the voted ballot to the County Election Board by mail. Absentee ballots must be in the County Election Board's hand by 7 p.m. on election day to be counted.

These voters also may vote by absentee ballot at the County Election Board office from 8 a.m. until 6 p.m. on Friday, February 4, or Monday, February 7.

Any registered voter in Precicnts 700202, 700205, and 700302 who believes that he or she may reside in the Goodwell School District and who has not yet received an absentee ballot application from the County Election Board should contact the County Election Board Office immediately at 580 338-7644.
