Three Liberal Schools Receive Standards of Excellence

Three Liberal schools receive standards of excellence based on last year's state accessment scores. MacArthur and McDermott elementary schools both receive awards for reading and math. West Middle School receives the award for 7th grade reading scores and the overall building reading scores.

Literacy First is one of the program's implemented to help raise those scores and USD 480's Lana Evans says the program is helping the district make strides.

"We're very proud of our teachers and very proud of our students," Evans said. "I think it's been very successful. It's very good teaching strategies. A lot of teachers have implemented that and they are seeing the benefits. When you look at the date you can see we are making a difference in the students academic learning."
