Garden City Teen To Stand Trial
11/05/2010

A southwest Kansas man accused of

raping, sodomizing and killing a Deerfield teenager will go on

trial next year.

Garden City resident Joaquin De Anda initially faced a June 2010

trial for the death of 16-year-old Julia Quintana.

But the 19-year-old defendant got a reprieve after his attorneys

filed a motion claiming he had a mental disease at the time of the

killing in December 2008.

De Anda's trial is now scheduled for March 22 to April 1, 2011.

Julia's body was found in a Dumpster near De Anda's home after

she was reported missing. An autopsy found that she died of

suffocation.

Some of De Anda's peers have testified that he had bragged about

the crimes.
