Car Strikes 78 Year Old Man On Kansas Avenue

A 78 year old man was hit by a car and was the victim of a hit and run Thursday afternoon in downtown Liberal. At about 1 p.m. emergency responders were dispatched to the 1000 block of North Kansas Avenue. Witnesses reported that a 1998 Pontiac Grand Am struck the man and then fled the scene. Police located the car at 7th and Pennsylvania. The 26 year old male drive was taken into custody. Officers learned Larry Wells, was crossing the street in the 1000 block of North Kansas when the northbound Grand Am struck him. The man was taken to Southwest Medical Center for care. The driver of the Grand Am was arrested on suspicion of inattentive driving, leaving the scene of an injury accident, no driver's license, and no proof of insurance.
