Kearny County Sherriff's Deputy To Stand Trial
10/28/2010

A former Kearny County Sheriff's deputy will

stand trial on 13 counts of sexual exploitation of a child.

Forty-six-year-old Timothy Rains of Lakin was bound over for

trial after a hearing Tuesday in Kearny County District Court.

Rains is charged with 13 counts of sexual exploitation of a

child. Prosecutors allege he took explicit photographs of a girl

younger than 18 with whom he had a relationship.

Prosecutors say the victim, a now-18-year-old Lakin woman, was a

minor when Rains took the pictures.

The Garden City Telegram reports that during Tuesday's bond

hearing, a tearful Rains asked the judge to keep him out of jail.

His bond was set at $85,000.

Rains worked in law enforcement in Kearny County for 19 years

before resigning in March.

Arraignment was set of Nov. 12.
