10/12/2010

For the first time in Liberal High School girls golf, the team has qualified for state competition Monday in Hays. The LHS girls finish third in their regional behind first place Hays and 2nd place Salina South. Hays scored a 364, Salina South a 435, Liberal a 467, Newton a 468, Great Bend a 476, and Salina Central a 522. Megan Campbell placed 5th overall in competition shooting a 98. Other scores for the girls were as follows: Kaela Kruger 118, Evan Sumner 122, and Jamie Brond 129. Head coach Kody Thexton says he's thrilled for his team. "I am so excited for the girls and the program. We continue to improve and make things happen in tournaments. We are always hanging around and we got the break we were looking for. We beat Newton by 1 stroke so we would qualfy. It was a gutsy performance in the rain and I can't say enough about the girls resolve to hang in there and finish the best they can."

LHS will play next Monday at Willow Bend golf course in Wichita for state.
