HAYS, Kan. (AP) - Average corn yields in Kansas are expected to
be lower than forecast.
Kansas Agricultural Statistics Service says average corn yields
will be down almost 8 bushels per acre compared to the forecast
just a month ago.
This year's corn crop had been expected to set a new record. But
it's now expected to be second best. That was enough to boost
prices by 30 cents a bushel Friday when the report was issued.
The Hays Daily News reports that the forecast is now that Kansas
corn production will total 585 million bushels. That's 13.3 million
bushels below last year's corn harvest.
