Comments Being Taken On Holcomb Plant
09/23/2010

Kansas officials are taking more comments

about a coal-fired power plant proposed for the southwest part of

the state.

The Kansas Department of Health and Environment is considering

issuing an air-quality permit to Sunflower Electric Power Corp. The

Hays-based utility wants to build the plant outside Holcomb, in

Finney County.

The department hopes to decide on the permit by the end of the

year. Environmentalists argue that's not enough time to consider

all comments thoroughly.

KDHE officials took comments from July 1 through Aug. 15, but

opened a second comment period Thursday because of issues with

environmental modeling software used by Sunflower.

The department will take comments through Oct. 23, then have a

public hearing Oct. 25 in Topeka.
