Kansas officials are taking more comments
about a coal-fired power plant proposed for the southwest part of
The Kansas Department of Health and Environment is considering
issuing an air-quality permit to Sunflower Electric Power Corp. The
Hays-based utility wants to build the plant outside Holcomb, in
The department hopes to decide on the permit by the end of the
year. Environmentalists argue that's not enough time to consider
all comments thoroughly.
KDHE officials took comments from July 1 through Aug. 15, but
opened a second comment period Thursday because of issues with
environmental modeling software used by Sunflower.
The department will take comments through Oct. 23, then have a
public hearing Oct. 25 in Topeka.
