A passion for glass is very apparent in the artwork of the Sheafor Family members’ upcoming exhibit at the Baker Arts Center. In a unique combination of glass media they express their skills at manipulating the properties of color and light inherent in the molten crystal. They admit that working in glass is their favorite way to play.
Doug Sheafor of Topeka, the head of the family, creates blown glass forms; son Nathan Sheafor of Grants Pass, OR. also does blown forms; Michele Yarbrough, Nathan’s wife, works with fused and stained glass; Alison Sheafor-Joy of Arlington, WA, does flameworking beaded glass and sculptural forms with a torch, while husband Mark Joy creates neon artwork. Alison will be demonstrating her craft at the show opening reception on Saturday, August 21st from 5:00 to 7:00 pm. The exhibit will be on display from August 21 to October 9, 2010.
