Hutch Continues Seward's Struggles
03/24/2014

The Hutchinson Blue Dragons handed the Seward County Saints their first four game series sweep since the KJCCC West went to the four game format in 2008.  The #17 Blue Dragons beat the Saints 4-2 and 18-13 Sunday on a sunny but cold day at Hobart-Detter Field.

In game one, HCC built a 4-0 lead before the Saints scored in the sixth to make it 4-2 but had runners on second and third with no outs and didn't score again.  Starter Pete Macke pitched four and one-third innings walking four and beaning two.  Adam Guay pitched one and two-thirds scoreless.  Hutch out-hit Seward 7-5 and the Saints committed the game's only error.

The Blue Dragons won a sloppy slug fest in game two.  Hutch banged out six extra base hits and had three bases loaded base clearing doubles in the first four innings.  Seward committed six errors mean they had 14 on the weekend.  The first five Seward pitchers walked seven and beaned three.  Thomas Garland actually pitched three and two thirds perfect innings.  But the Blue Dragos flexed their muscles early and often scoring threein the first, two in the second, five in the third, four in the fourth, and four in the fifth.  Seward actually out-hit Hutch 18-13.  Brent Williams was 3-4 with two doubles.  Brandon Urquizo was 4-6.  Connor Smith was 3-5.

Seward plummets to 18-15 overall and 8-8 in the Jayhawk West.  Hutchinson is 21-5 overall and leading the Jayhawk West at 10-2.

Seward plays at Clarendon Wednesday before hosting Pratt Saturday and Sunday at 1 at Brent Gould Field.  This weekend's games air on 1270 and kscbnews.net.
