Sonia is SWMC’s New Year baby
01/03/2014

New Year’s Day at Southwest Medical Center came and went without a newborn to add to the 2014 birth roster. It wasn’t until 4:55 a.m. on January 2 that baby Sonia Imul-Batz was delivered by Dr. Dennis Knudsen. The daughter of Juana Batz and Lucas Imul, Sonia is the Liberal couple’s fourth daughter. While having a boy could have been a new adventure, both parents say they’re happy to have a healthy baby. Measuring 19 inches long and weighing in at 9 pounds, Sonia’s expected date of birth was closer to another holiday – Christmas Eve. While the wait for her arrival was long, Sonia was born within an hour and a half of Juana’s arrival at Southwest Medical Center. Southwest Medical Center staff delivered 61 newborns in December 2013, with a total of 710 babies delivered in 2013.
