Bee Jays Open 56th Season Tonight

Bee Jays Open Season Tonight

The Liberal Bee Jays begin their 56th summer of baseball Friday night at Brent Gould Field against the Colorado Bombers. Manager John Martin has 20 players in town for the opener. He says he’ll ask his guys to play the game the right way. “The big thing is I want them to come out and play with a good attitude and a good effort,” the former BJ assistant from Emporia State said. “We’re going to play hard and play the right way on and off the field. I hope they come out and have fun. We’re not going to have all of our players here so these guys are going to have some opportunities to be seen so it’s an opportunity for these guys to be seen by me and the rest of the coaches.”

There aren’t too many familiar faces on tonight’s team. Seward shortstop Kelby Tomlinson, and returning BJ’s Aaron Mees (Chandler-Gilbert, Az) and Mike Silva (Louisiana Tech) are three players who might not send fans scrambling for a roster. College of the Sequoias right hander John Niggli is the expected opening night starter.

Billy’s is Friday night’s buyout sponsor. They will give 100 pulled pork sandwiches and chips to the first 100 fans. Brown’s Furniture Saturday and Days Inn/Holiday Inn Express Sunday are future buyout sponsors.

The Bee Jays also conduct a youth baseball clinic in Perryton Friday from 9-11 a.m. Liberal's youth clinic is June 12 from 10-noon.

Friday night’s game will air on Talkradio 1270 and
