Liberal City Commission Meets

The Liberal City Commission met Tuesday evening at 6:30pm for their regularly scheduled meeting. The meeting kicked off with the commission proclaming May as National Foster Care Month. Among the items on the agenda the City Commission Set Hearings for condemnation of properties at 520 W. Third, 602 N. Oklahoma, 718 S. Seward, 710 S. Western, Lot 168, and 710 S. Western, Lot 164. The Condemnation Hearing on all above listed properties is set for July 13, 2010. Ernie Miller and Robert "Squeaky" Hittle were appointed to the Arkalon Council Board and the Commission approved to put out for bids the design for the Cul-De-Sac for Pioneer Electric. Abbott Construcion of Liberal was the low bidder for the Park and Sidewalk projects. The award amount is $324,974.40 and will include a slab for the pavillion in Light Park, a multi-purpose court, a skate park, and a sidewalk on Kansas Avenue North from 15th Street to Tucker Road. The commission also approved an automatic chlorinator for the Waste Water Treatment Plant, approved more change orders on the Western Avenue Project in the amount of $74,661.00 and approved the purchase of new chairs for the City Court/Commission Chambers. The money for the chairs will come from the remodel fund that had been set aside when the City purchased the current City Hall. Al Shank Insurance also presented the City with a dividend check from Employers Mutual Company in the amount of over $44,000.00. The next meeting of the Liberal City Commission is set for June 9, 2010.
