Garden City Sweeps Home Meet

The Garden City boys and girls track and field teams both won their own track and field meet Tuesday at Garden City Memorial Stadium. After leading until the final event and losing to Liberal at Liberal's meet, the Buffaloes beat LHS by 31 points and scored 123 points for the meet win. Scott City was third with 81. Ulysses came in sixth with 42. The Liberal girls placed 8th while Garden's girls won the meet with 123 points. Colby was the runner up with 11.50 points. Ulysses was fifth with 40.50 points. Liberal's boys had two gold medalists. Isaac Gallegos won the 200 and Adebayou Braimah won the 300 hurdles. Liberal's 4x400 relay team of Isaac Gallegos, Michael Sena, Adebayou Braimah, and Levondrick Martin placed second. That same group took third in the 4x100 relay. Justin McPhail was second in the shot put while Blake Abbott was fifth. Morgan Riggs was second in the 1600, third in the 3200, and fifth in the 800. Levondrick Martin was third in the 100 and fifth in the 200. Liberal's 4x800 relay was fourth with Fidel Munoz, Benito Rivera, Alejandro Avila, and Morgan Riggs. In the Discus, Zach Berens was third and Akile Powdril was sixth. Caitlin Bauer led the LHS girls by winning the discus, finishing second in the shot put, and winning the javelin. Destini Lucero was third in the 3200 and fifth in the 1600. Liberal goes to Goddard Friday.
