Pratt Shines Again In Beaver

James Pratt of Beaver Oklahoma has once again walked away a winner in the 41st annual World Championship Cowchip Throw in Beaver on Saturday. Cooler temperatures greeted the contestants Saturday afternoon at the Beaver County Fairgrounds. A film crew from Atlanta was in town to film the event, as were several political candidates running for office across the state of Oklahoma. Pratt's throw of 149' 3" was good enough to beat 2nd place finisher John Elfer by a little over 2 feet as he threw 147' 0". In third Place in the Men's Division was Hayden Meier at 122' 5". In the Womens Division, Pratt's daughter, Terri Welty was also a winner with a toss of 132" 9". She defeated Dana Martin of Guymon who took 2nd with a throw of 123' 2" and Denese Best in 3rd who threw 51' 1". In the team competion, the Beaver Fire Department were the winners once again with a combined total of 484' 9'. In second were the Flaming Torpedoes, at 338'5", followed by Meco Land Services with a combined team total of 320' 8". With this year being an election year, several politcal candidates also showed just how well they could "Sling Some Bull". Taking first in the VIP Division was Liberal's Vice-Mayor Joe Denoyer, with a throw of 100' 3", followed by Oklahoma Attorney General candidate and former Beaver resident Ryan Leonard with a toss of 75' 6". In third was Oklahoma Labor Commission candidate Jason Reese at 74' 1".
