Liberal City Commission Re-organizes

The Liberal City Commission met last night for their regularly scheduled meeting at 6:30pm in the City Commission Chambers. Among the items on the agenda was the reorganization of the Commission with the election of a Mayor and Vice-mayor. Tim Long was appointed Mayor for the upcoming year after serving as Vice-Mayor. Joe Denoyer was appointed the Vice-Mayor. He had previously served in the capacity of Mayor for the past 2 years. The Liberal City Commission also adopted 3 Resolutions for the condemnation of properties at 530 N. Oklahoma, 515 N. Nebraska, and 412 E. 5th Street. The commission also approved several Environmental and Vehicle Abatements. Several codes were also adopted, these include, new Plumbing Codes, Mechanical Codes, Fuel Gas Codes, Fire Codes, and Life Safety Codes. Commissioners also approved the purchase of a bucket truck for $50,000.00, a Greens mower and Leaf blower for the Golf Course, a Salt Spreader, for $3500.00, and approved $7,000.00 for a new Economic Development website. Also approved was the low bid from J & R Sand in the amount of $356,896.26 to put in a new street in the M.C. Wheeler Addition. The Liberal City Commission moved to accept a donation from a charitable organization in the amount of $15,000.00. This will go to purchase Fire Extinguisher Training equipment. City Staff also informed the Commission of a KDOT payment for the Bike/Ped Paths. The payment was in the amount $201,234.36. The next meeting of the Liberal City Commission will be April 27.
