Saints Salvage Split at Hutch
04/12/2010

After an 8-1 loss Sunday in game one of a double header, it seemed nearly certain Seward would wind up in second or third place at the end of the weekend. But after Barton swept Butler and Colby split at Garden City, the Saints remain the first place team in the Jayhawk West. Seward split at Hutchinson Saturday and Sunday at Hobart Detter Field. Saturday, the Saints won 8-7 but lost 11-9 before losing Sunday 8-1 and winning 9-7. Sunday in game one, the Saints managed just two hits in the loss. Jared Broadbent hammered his seventh homer of the year. In game two, reliever Ty Jacobs pitched three and one-third innings for the win and Quay Grant pitched two scoreless innings for his third save. Luke Campbell was 4-5 with two RBI's while Josh Dawson was 2-5 with his first homer, a triple, and four RBI's. Kelby Tomlinson added three hits. Sunday, Seward won game one 8-7 after the Blue Dragons made six errors. Camron Maldonado pitched the distance improving to 6-3. Jordan Dallalio's two out bases loaded two RBI single in the sixth gave Seward the 8-7 lead in a game they trailed 6-2 after three. In game two, Seward built a 9-4 lead going to the bottom of the fifth but the bullpen faltered allowing five Dragon runs in the sixth. The Saint bats fell silent going scoreless the final four innings. Seward is 21-20 overall and 17-7 in the Jayhawk West while Hutchinson is 20-15 overall and 10-10 in the Jayhawk West. The Saints host Clarendon Wednesday at 2 PM.
